BRother Computerized 110 stitch Function Sewing Machine Review

I have a Viking, but purchased this when my Viking was in for repair. I’ve wanted a backup that was dependable & I didn’t want to tote around my heavy, expensive Viking. I needed a lighter, more portable machine that I could tote around for my weekly quilt group.

This machine performs better than expected. It sewed through some fairly thick layers with ease. Top loading bobbin threading is a cinch. Quite a few features that my older computerized Viking does not have (auto needle threader!). The only thing that I currently wish it had was a way for the thread to lay horizontal like my Viking does. But this little machine has more stitches. Most importantly, it has specialty quilting stitches…like the blanket stitch & piecing stitch & also has “needle down” default & quilt extension table.

The adjustable speed is great for teaching kids or for detailed applique. Just a great machine all around. I would recommend it to any of my friends although I have a friend who has the step up from this that has basic alphabet embroidery. That would be nice. Some Brother accessories (bobbins & 2 feet) are available at Walmart.

Keep in mind that this machine is designed for QUILTING, but can be used for regular sewing. I find that the needle down default is annoying when doing sewing projects (button for needle up/down)….but awesome for quilting.

Singer CE-150 Futura Sewing-and-Embroidery Machine Review

Before my Singer, I had only used a machine twice in my life, so when it arrived, I got a pleasant surprise – I was off sewing within minutes, getting great results and having loads of fun. I especially love that threading is so easy, and you learn quickly where to be careful to avoid thread breakage.

Changing to embroidery unit – no problem, though getting the right foot attached usually takes me a sec. I daringly started off with one of my own Embird designs… without a glitch, even without the use of stabilizer, just straight onto firm cotton.

I love that the machine is easy to use, especially the Futura software. Its 24 standard stitches are more than enough, its embroidery is great. And my absolute favorite is the hoop size! Other machines with a similar (still higher) price tag come with a 4″x4″ hoop, this one has two hoops with a maximum of 5″x7″. You might not think you will need this, but you will – either when doing multiple designs on one large hoop, or just embroidering longer names.

The manual could be improved at times, but I hardly ever needed it.

I hear people complaining about broken thread – honestly, just like with every machine, you just need to know the Singer’s quirks.

During the first 3-5 stitches of every color, hold the upper thread in the back, and no false thread breakage will occur. If it still does, thread the whole thing again and you will be fine. Don’t use pre-wound bobbins without stabilizer. It will give you trouble after only 1/3 of the bobbin is empty, and since the bobbin case is plastic, you really shouldn’t use metal bobbins either. Just wind your own bobbins when needed, it is easy enough.

Make sure that you use good embroidery yarn; every machine has brands it doesn’t like. I am currently extremely happy with the Madeira yarns.

The fact that it needs a computer next to it… You know that before buying, don’t you? To me, that is not a disadvantage at all, since I appreciate the large screen, and that I can work in Embird while the machine embroiders, preparing the next project.

It really is an awesome machine for that price. In Europe, the only difference between the 150 and the 250/350 are the number of stitches and which software is included.

Since I am using Embird, I really needed nothing except the Futura software to send designs to the machine, and 24 stutches is more than enough for what I do.

I highly recommend the machine – I am utterly in love with it.

Brother PC-420 PRW Limited Edition Project Runway Sewing Machine Review

Love it, love it, love it!!!! I have been sewing for more than 35 years (since I was 9 years old). I have never had a new sewing machine before. This one is so easy to use. The lettering is great. I have had the machine for 2 months and have already done several projects for family members that wanted something with lettering. It’s one more tool to add to my sewing arsenal. I have had fun trying out all the different stitches. I showed it to my sister and now she is planning to purchase one for her 2 daughters that like to sew. I would recommend this even for a beginner sewer because the Operation Manual is so easy to read. Threading the machine and filling the bobbin are easy to do on this machine.

Singer 7463 Confidence 30-Stitch Electronic Sewing Machine Review

I am very happy with my Singer 7463 Confidence Sewing Machine. After purchasing a computerized Brother machine that broke after 4 days, I bought the Singer 7463. I was replacing a Singer Fashionmate 362 that I had since I was a teenager. I wanted more stitch options. The Brother was so fragile that I soon realized that I would not be able to sew all that I wanted. The Singer has great stitch options, and it is very solid. I have been using a few times a week since I bought it just after Christmas. I love that it is solid, easy to thread, and the light is good. It did not come with a screw driver- and the one from my previous machine worked fine. But it must be small and short to work in this machine. I recommend purchasing it too- well worth it. The feet that comes with it are good for sewing and quilting. It is light weight- has a handle that is easy to use. My last machine I could not carry- this one would travel easily – and I look forward to taking to friends’ houses. I sew on every fabric you can think of including paper. This machine will last me an easy 20-30 more years, easily. The only other machine I plan to add in the next 5 years is an embroidery/quilting machine, but I would still need a “basic” machine like the Singer 7463, that is so much more than what I replaced. I will have a hard time with anything that is not a Singer- they are such good machines.

Singer(R) CurvyTM 8763 Sewing Machine Review

After many decades of service, my wife’s old Singer finally went kaput so we researched several different machines before deciding on this one. Not only did Amazon offer the best value, but my credit card had barely cooled when the machine and case arrived – super fast shipping. I know, I know – guys aren’t supposed to give APPLIANCES as gifts but that’s what she wanted and that’s what she got.

Although this was a Christmas gift the wifey has been dieting and had quite a few outfits to alter before the holidays, so I encouraged her to open the boxes and get acquainted with her new machine. Right away, we were struck by just how much larger this machine was in person than when viewed on the web site. It’s not really huge, just a bit bigger than we’s envisioned. The machine works great, and she is still learning all the functions and features.

One curiousity – there was no instructional DVD with this particular machine, and nothing in the product description to indicate there would be one included, but it sure would be helpful – especially for a guy like me that is not very sewing machine savvy. Beyond the presser feet described on the web site, ours came with a whole ‘nother bag of different presser feet – 4 or 5 others that we have not yet identified. Not sure if this was a packaging mistake or what, but it was a bonus. Singer *should* at least include a descriptive sheet of the different presser feet along with the intended use for each one so we’d know exactly what we’re working with here. My bride is no stranger to Singer products, but this has even her a bit baffled. There’s a double fistful of presser feet and are left to discover their useful functions on our own. This is the only reason I only rated this product at four stars instead of five.

Overall, first impressions are very favorable and we are both pleased with the purchase. Whether you are new to sewing or a wily veteran seamstress I think you could do quite well with this middle of the line machine. Buy with confidence, but do your homework first.

Brother Deluxe Electronic Sewing Machine – CS6000i Review

This is the second Brother sewing machine I have had. The first one was a cs8072 model that cost under 0.00 and worked like a dream for many years. I used it pedal to the metal every day and it finally wore out. I plan to take it in for service to see if it can be saved…but in the meantime, I ordered the cs6000i and it arrived in less than a week. It is very much like my last one but came with a quilting foot,a walking foot and a large platform! Great in all aspects. I also love the needle threader and free arm for small areas. For the money these little computerized Brothers far exceed my expectations! I suggest if you do have any problems, please read your owners manual, and use good needles and good quality thread.
